Information for international students

The PreCollege of the Basel Music Academy is primarily aimed at students from the region of Northwestern Switzerland and the neighbouring countries of Germany, France and Italy. Applications from other countries may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Martin Neher (Classic/Early Music/School Music) or Kaspar von Grünigen (Jazz) for further information.

Requirements for international applications

  • You should have been taught in your main subject for several years by a qualified teacher who recommends you for the programme on the basis of your outstanding talent.
  • To participate in the PreCollege programme, you must be resident in Basel or one of the neighbouring Swiss cantons.
  • The PreCollege is a full-time programme.
  • The language of instruction is German; therefore, German language skills of at least  A1 level are required.
  • A video presenting two works from different eras must be submitted before enrolment.

Visa and residence permit

  • In order to study in Switzerland, you need a confirmation of admission from the Basel Music Academy. With this confirmation, depending on your nationality, you can apply for a visa or residence permit at the embassy responsible for your country of residence.
  • If your application is approved by the authorities in Switzerland, the requirements for your entry and your study-related stay have been met.
