Jazzcampus Big Band plays the „Freedom in Art & Motion“ suite led by Adrian Mears
Montag, 20.01. | 19:30 | Jazzcampus Club
This 70 minute original suite showcases the ensemble both as a cohesive unit and in smaller, dynamic formats, the exploring a fusion of contemporary classical music and jazz traditions. Inspired by pioneers who have embraced and integrated these sounds and textures into their art. With influences ranging from Olivier Messiaen’s harmonic brilliance to Ornette Coleman’s groundbreaking free jazz, “this performance promises to push the limits of the big band tradition as we know it” says Prof. Adrian Mears.
Adrian Mears, born in Sydney in 1969, is a renowned trombonist and key figure in European jazz since 1991. Early recognized in Australia as "Best Australian Trombonist," he has performed with top ensembles like the Vienna Art Orchestra, Carla Bley and McCoy Tyner’s Big Band. A prolific composer and educator, he has taught at the Jazz Institute of the Hochschule für Musik Basel for over 26 years.
