Archive of the Music Academy Basel
The archive contains documents on the institutional history of the Music Academy Basel and its predecessor institutions since 1867: These include files on the directorate, the administration, the teaching institutions (Music School Basel from 1867, Music School and Conservatoire Basel from 1905, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis from 1933), archival records on the running of the school, correspondence, collections of concert programmes, certificates, diplomas, student files, examination files, appointment procedures, historical material on the teaching staff, photographs, instrument files, building files, annual reports and documents on special events such as master classes.
The archive of the Music Academy Basel was professionally catalogued from 2008. In 2016, the archive moved to rooms on Holbeinstrasse due to renovation work in the main building on Leonhardsstrasse. The volume of documents stored in the archive is around 275 linear metres. The archive is not open to the public. The protection periods of the archives law of the Canton of Basel-Stadt apply.
